Taylor Northwest was selected by the Tumalo Irrigation District (TID) for the Group 3 Piping Project in central Oregon. This TID project will place approximately 2,200 linear feet of pipe in addition to nearly 3.5 miles of HDPE solid-wall pipe ranging from 8 to 36 inches in diameter.
Mission Critical managed this Request for Proposal effort for Taylor Northwest (TNW) in a very competitive pursuit. Two of the top firms in the region were also proposing for this piping project, which meant that the proposal document had to leverage every opportunity to demonstrate the team’s value, experience, and approach. One of the more critical elements of this successful proposal was the technical translation of the schedule and the team’s ability to meet all of TID’s milestones and goals within that schedule.
Taylor Northwest has a breadth of experience in the central Oregon region, especially with projects of similar size and scope. However, the proposed Project Manager was new to the firm and did not share the same experiences with other members of the TNW team. Our writing staff spent time interviewing the client team members to highlight their shared experiences as well as convey their strengths as individuals to position this team as ideal partners for TID.
To set the team apart, Mission Critical considered it crucial to communicate TNW’s understanding of the project in context of the corridor as a whole. The TNW team is sensitive to the goals and needs of the corridor stakeholders, sparing no detail to anticipate and accommodate them. As an extension of their approach, they offer best practices from previous experience with Public Involvement in the region to the benefit of TID. Mission Critical’s design team created a graphic representation of TNW’s approach to preserving the mature trees along the corridor while digging trenches by realigning sections, plating root zones, and trimming branches to accommodate equipment.
Ultimately, it was the clear communication and visualization of this level of detail that won the contract in this competitive procurement. The project is set to begin in November 2020 with an anticipated completion in March of 2021.
